Isle of Wight wedding flowers – Doris Pinks

Supplier feature

We know, because some of the brides planning now have told us, that sometimes you can find shopping on the Isle of Wight for your wedding day flowers difficult; it can be hard sometimes to find florists online: you feel a little in the dark on what you might need, what your wedding budget could stretch to and whether you should even be getting quotes for your flowers at this point in planning. We say – if you are planning your wedding on the Isle of Wight and you want to get a quote for your wedding day flowers, the sooner the better. Obviously we started Wight Wedding Days so you could find florists in one place and ask for quotes, the rest is up to you.

Wedding flowers can cover a whole spectrum of possibilities with bouquets and buttonholes, arches and centrepieces, top table creations, hairpieces, aisle decoration for your ceremony venue and anywhere else you are thinking of decorating with flowers on your wedding day. The opportunities are endless so why not start with your dreams, get a quote for that and then work backwards from that when it comes to being able to afford it.

You can choose to go and meet your florist to discuss the possibilities with a consultation just for you. You will be able to pick the brains of an experienced florist who will inspire you and also keep you grounded with what can be created for you. There are a couple of things that you should have decided before you visit a florist and that is where you ceremony will take place, where you will be having your reception and on your wedding dress. Many Isle of Wight florists have visited or worked in the reception and ceremony venues available to you so can suggest where flowers can go and what effect they have. You should be able to tell your florist, or better show your florist, what your dress will be like, as your bouquet will depend upon the shape and style of your dress.

Some brides have suggested that their experience of going to a florists to discuss their wedding can be difficult when they haven’t made an appointment or the shop is busy with other customers. One Isle of Wight florist who has a specific bridal consultation area dedicated to talking weddings without the distraction of other flower shop goings on is Doris Pinks in Newport.

We wanted to find out more from Sue Edwards on what Doris Pinks can offer wedding couples, who the team are behind the lovely shop and what they can create for you and your wedding on the Isle of Wight. Here is more from Sue aka Doris.

When did Doris Pinks start and why?

Doris started in 2001 from home when I was still working for Barclays Bank. I went straight into banking from school and worked my way up through many different jobs. However, when banking became so target driven, I wanted out. Having worked as a Saturday girl in Tomlinsons Florist, floristry was the only other thing I knew. I went part time in the Bank & part time florist. As business grew I got a shed in the back garden, then a very tiny shop at the end of the road . Several locations since, I have now settled at 16, Carisbrooke Road, Newport

Why did you decide to base your business on the Isle of Wight?

I think the Island is a unique place that offers bridal couples such a lot, from country house grandeur to modern chic boutique venues in town or by the sea, and our flowers can transform any space. Doris Pinks can adapt to any situation and that's why I like the Island so much and chose to be a part of the Bridal scene on the Island. We like the variety that the Island has to offer and therefore the variety that we can cater for never makes our job boring or a chore.

How has Doris Pinks grown since you started?

Doris has grown unbelievably, having been trading for over 12 years, I still get a buzz and am amazed at how busy we are. In 2012, we had the ultimate honour of designing and creating the 2 official bouquets that were presented to The Queen on her visit to the Island.

Who are the team behind Doris Pinks?

We have an amazing team, but the main people that you will see or hear when you telephone the shop is myself Sue (Also called Doris by many customers, although the Doris part was actually my Grand mothers name) and my amazing and talented husband Paul. (A retired fireman who has now found his true vocation in life ha ha!)  We also have Jordan and Sharon our part-timers who we couldn’t manage without.

What are the main wedding services you offer couples?

Flowers for all parts of the ceremony and reception. We design everything uniquely to each bride, so nothing is ever copied. We make the bridal flowers, bridesmaids & flower girls, buttonholes, corsages, table centre pieces, church flowers, floral archways, top table arrangements, marquee decoration, Thank you bouquets, hair flowers, cake flowers... I think that covers just about everything!

Do you offer anything that a client might not know about and may be of interest?

We offer a FREE no obligation consultation, either at our shop, which has an amazing bridal suite, or at your chosen venue. Many people don’t know that we have a secluded bridal suite. This is a dedicated area, where brides can come and have a chat over a coffee, hold/try different styles of bouquets to see which they are comfortable with and which suits their theme and dress style/ body shape etc. We have many hire items available and new for 2013, a beautiful illuminated 7ft wishing tree. We also have a instalment plan option to help spread the costs.

What is the future for Doris Pinks, any new developments for the future?

We are always developing and moving forward, and the fact that we are still here after 12 years proves that we must be doing something right. We are in the process of getting more hire items, so watch this space.

What do you think differentiates you from other wedding florists?

We CARE! You have one point of contact i .e. Me - Sue,  who will chat through with you, will design with you and then actually make the bouquets for you. We have the bridal suite area, so you are not rushed at the initial chat through and we have the instalment plan option for payment. We have the quality and the dedication to make your dreams come true with flowers.
