Movember on your wedding day

Now for those of you who aren't aware of the phenomenon that is Movember, and are left wondering why there are so many twitching moustaches walking past you in the street at this time of year, then we aim to enlighten at times. Movember is a month (hint – November) where men across the UK and the rest of the world sign up to the cause to raise awareness of and funds for the treatment of men’s health issues, mainly prostate cancer and testicular cancer. A great cause that gets ‘Mo Bro’s’ tittle-tattling about their abilities to grow facial hair and admiring each other’s achievements on a regular basis.

You may already be well aware of Movember and the effects it can have on the male members of your family and circle of friends or even all the men at your office. In fact, you may even be a groom looking to get the ok from his fiancé to go ahead with Movember despite your wedding taking place in that month next year, the year after or the one after that (yes, some couples plan that far ahead). Prostate Cancer or testicular cancer may be something you have experienced first hand and your wedding day is a great opportunity to save on favours or gift expenditure by asking for donations to Movember.

Now Movember has taken on a life of it’s own and there are all sorts of resources available to you, so if you were considering incorporating Movember into your wedding day we have some ideas on how you can make it fun whilst enjoying your day and raising some money for charity. It is amazing how many different types of moustache it is possible for men to grow. A versatile hairstyle for under the nose (a serious sounding tagline for a barbers).

1.     Ask ALL male members of the wedding party to try and grow a moustache – any teenagers or elderly nans and aunties may need to be dealt with sensitively.

Why not make it part of the dress code when you send out your invites and make it known that you are taking Movember on board whole heartedly, plan to raise money and awareness whilst generally having a good ol’ laugh with some great pictures to match. Don’t forget to get them to sign up officially at Movember.com.

2.     Track everyones efforts by asking them to take photos and then you could create a before and after line up with a prize for the winning moustache as judged by the wedding party by secret vote.

3.     Those who don’t take part can have the chance to don a tash in a Movember themed photobooth with bowler hats, prop moustaches and the odd jacket perhaps.

4.     Introduce moustaches into the decoration of the wedding party, venue and food. With the popularity of all things moustache it won’t be hard to source themed wedding decorations, novelty cakes and biscuits along with gifts and clothing. Buy from the official Movember merchandise site here.

5.     Make your favours a donation on your guests behalf to the cause. You can get a little keepsake Moustache themed gift, but keep it cheap if you intend on the gesture being contributing to the charity.

6.      Coin a dance move at your hen and stag parties that can reignite the fun on the day you get married. Something that will cause a few laughs and get everyone relaxed and having a good time with their real or fake moustaches.

7.     We like this idea we say on Quirky Weddings Blog where the children can get a ride on a moustache. Made us chuckle.

Again, we LOVE Pinterest so that's where that gem and the ones below came from!

So if you are considering having Movember as part of your day to help raise awareness of mens health issues then hopefully the ideas above have given you reason to go ahead and if you are interested in it purely for comedy reasons, perhaps consider incorporating the more serious side at some point in your day to raise money or awareness.

And even if the little guy below makes you think it isn’t going down well, the little man below him will make you smile!
