Isle of Wight Make Up and Face Paint

Supplier feature

For some, your wedding day make up might be a scary prospect where you aren’t sure if you should go pro or DIT – Do It Together (because you know you will be seeking the opinion of every woman in the room). It could be an area of the wedding preparations that you have made your decision on already and set aside some of the wedding budget for, because you know how to put your make up on for a night out but on your wedding day you want to look your best. Let’s face it – there are going to be a lot of pictures taken for the whole day and you want to be happy with pretty much all of them.

Here at Wight Wedding Days we both feel that although we are happy with how our makeup is for the odd photo from a night out in town, we wouldn’t necessarily want to be responsible for our own on our wedding day. But we would want to be in the hands of a professional who can apply our make up so we look like a beautiful goddess. Ok, maybe that’s too much of an ask, just enhance what we already have. You might even be considering it for more of the female (and some male) members of the wedding party so you all look your absolute best.

A professional make up artist can offer you products you don’t own or have even heard of that will give you a face that won’t slip – until you see what Uncle Herbert wrote in your guestbook! You will have a professional look that stands the best chance of lasting until the wee hours of the morning. We are also imagining less stress and more relaxation as someone pampers you on the day by applying your make-up rather than leaving it the make up bag you have had for a number of years you won’t tell anyone, which matches the age of some of the products in it.

There are a few professional make up artists on the Isle of Wight you can choose to have with you on your day. They normally offer a pre-wedding consultation to try out provisional looks for your day and then come to you on the morning of your wedding whilst you are getting ready to make your grand entrance at your wedding ceremony later in the day. It is a personal time and it is essential that you feel comfortable with the results you will get and the experience you will have with them. You should also feel comfortable with the person applying your make up as they are going to spend a little bit of time up close.

This supplier feature is on Jo Lofthouse of Isle of Wight Make Up and Face Paint who is a qualified and award winning make up artist with over 10 years experience in the field. Jo has been the finalist for a number of awards with big names such as Guerlain, Lancôme and Estee Lauder but actually won the Guerlain UK consultant of the year in 2007. The growth in her business on the island in the short months she has been operating here could be seen as testament to the skills, service and experience she offers.

Jo is an Associate Tutor on the Island who teaches the Conviviality masterclass@HOME tutorials in association with Daniel Sandler Professional Finish Make Up. This means that if you are keen to have any kind of coaching or lessons in how to apply your own make up, whether it be as a fun activity to do with your hen party or if you would like to use what you learn to apply your own on your wedding day, Jo can facilitate a group or individual session. Now there’s a happy medium you could consider.

We were excited to ask Jo more about what she does and what Isle of Wight Make Up and Face Paint can do for you on your wedding day on the Isle of Wight.

When did Isle of Wight Make Up and Face Paint start and why?

I decided to set up my own business at the end of 2011 after taking a couple of years out of the work scene to have a baby and to spend time concentrating on my new arrival. From being a small child I always had a love and great interest in make up. I was taught a great deal about products and make up techniques through working as a professional dancer for thirteen years.

After hanging up the dance shoes for good in 2000 I worked and trained extensively in the make up industry working for various high end International Make Up and Skin Care brands. During this time I reached the semi-finals in the National Supreme Consultant of the Year Award, was nominated for the Lancome Golden Rose Award and won the Guerlain UK Prix D'Or Consultant of the Year Award.
After being a stay at home mum for a couple of years, I decided I wanted to get back to what I loved doing again...... I spent a few months setting up my business and receiving extra training in bridal make up application. I have been out working as a freelance make up artist since April. I am loving every minute of it!

Why the Isle of Wight?

My partner and I moved to the island in November 2010 for my partner's job.

How has your business grown?

I am thrilled with how my business has grown in just a few months, as I never expected it to develop as quick as it has in just a few months. I have had a very busy summer and winter is proving to be just as busy. I am receiving some lovely feedback and am already taking bookings on recommendations from previous customers. I am taking bookings for next year's wedding make ups and even have one in the diary for 2014!

Who are the team?

Just me, me and me! lol!

What are the main wedding services you offer?

I provide an Islandwide professional make-up service, travelling to the bride's home or wedding venue to apply a make-up look to the bride, mothers of bride and groom, bridesmaids and any of the wedding party that so require, specifically tailoring it to their needs and requirements.

Prior to the special day, I conduct a thorough and detailed consultation and trial taking into consideration all aspects of the wedding. During this time, I work closely with the bride to create a flawless, long lasting, photo perfect make-up, ensuring that she feels confident and comfortable on her wedding day.

Do you offer anything that a client might not know about?

I am the only Associate Tutor on the island for teaching the Conviviality masterclass@HOME tutorials in association with Daniel Sandler Professional Finish Make Up. These social and educational tutorials make for a perfect hen celebration, coaching a bride who may be getting married abroad and applying her own make up on her wedding day, a thank you gift or wedding gift.

I am available for make up lessons, special occasion, prom and party make up.

I am also a children's facepainter and temporary glitter tattooist ........ perfect for children's birthday parties, small events and wedding receptions.

What differentiates you from other wedding make up artists?

I am extremely passionate about what I do and believe that the experience and tuition I have received while working for so many years in the make up industry has equipped me with a very important diversity of skills.

What is the future for Isle of Wight Make Up and Face Paint?

I have lots of exciting future projects planned to look forward to and I'm hoping to amplify on what I have worked hard to build this year. I will continue to work hard to build myself an excellent reputation as a well respected, reliable and talented make up artist on the island.
