Paper Pleasures

Supplier feature

Once you have scraped yourself off of the ceiling from all the excitement of getting engaged, changing your relationship status, announcing it to friends and walking around glowing with happiness, the reality sets in of wedding planning on the Isle of Wight and budgets. Money, budgets, venues, budget wedding dress….it goes on. First thing on your mind will be what you can do yourselves together and we are sure that you will create a great big list of all the things you can do to save money. We are all for a bit of money saving and Doing It Together (DIT – we wrote a blog on it, as we do), so long as you have thought about how much time you can realistically set aside for it all, how much cost will actually be involved in buying all the raw materials and will the effort into pulling off the standard you’ve seen on Pinterest be worth it. There is no denying it, we’ve seen many of the weddings that have been planned on the Isle of Wight by couples who have gone to DIY heaven and come back with pictures of a wedding any US wedding blog would step over each other to feature. If you have talent for it or know someone who does, go for it.

Once you have decided on your wedding date and you’re thinking about when it will be best to send a save the date flyer or the invitations, you should consider whether making the invitations is something you want to take on yourselves. It can be enough of a headache to make a final decision on the guest list never mind thinking about attaching 130 jewels and bows to an invitation with glue all over your hands and possibly the kitchen table. The invitation can say a lot about your pending nuptials and there can be a lot of different pieces of information you need to let people know or collect back from them. Making this easy for your wedding guests to do will make it easier for you to pass on the information to the people that need it.

For instance, your guests dietary requirements need to be with your venue or catering supplier no later than a week before your wedding and the best time to collect the information on whether someone is a vegetarian, allergic to nuts or gluten, is with the invitation. Another example is providing the right information to guests coming over from the mainland who may not know the Island that well. There could be a lot of information that you don’t want to have to call them up about and go through while you could be making those paper pom poms that stayed on the DIT to-do list. Asking for this information without scrawling it across the shop bought invite you’ve now realised isn’t big enough, in an invitation, which still says vintage, sophistication or festival chic might be a tall order. Although, if there is a stationer in the family then lucky you, send them your wedding day vitals.

Beautiful, well designed, personal and unique stationery isn’t hard to find on the Isle of Wight and there are many talented stationers here who can help you balance the invite information with design and theme. One such stationer is Kathrine of Paper Pleasures who offers luxury personalised stationery with everything from invitations and save the date flyers to place names and table plans. Kathrine’s facebook page has recently been updated with some stunning work that is well worth a look through and will have you hovering over the ‘message’ button. We asked Kathy to tell us more about her work, and why she does it.

When did Paper Pleasures start and why?

I trained and worked as a Graphic designer with many years experience in the design and print industry, I wanted to work for myself from home and be creative everyday so Paper Pleasures was founded in July 1999.  Initially it was a very low-key business but this has built up over the years.

Why did you decide to base your business on the Isle of Wight?

I was born on the Isle of Wight and have never left apart from holidays! I live and work in my lovely home in Gurnard. In 1996 I had builders work on my studio which has created an amazing place to work and meet with clients.

How has Paper Pleasures grown since you started?

First it was a very tiny business, but with the aid of my website it has grown and grown. I now receive orders from all over the country, Europe and even from America, with email and DHL worldwide delivery nothing is impossible.

Who are the team behind Paper Pleasures?

Myself (Kathrine) and my awesome husband Graham. Graham also has his own business and works from home, he's behind my website and helps out when I get tight deadlines.

What are the main wedding services you offer couples?

My aim is to offer unique, beautiful wedding stationery for each couple, it's nice to create something special which means something to them, rather than a design just picked off the internet. I can provide everything from Save the Dates through to Thank you Cards. I also make any unique stationery requirements the couple may have.

Do you offer anything that a client might not know about and may be of interest?

All orders are unique, even if a couple like a design, it's always tweaked so it's unique to them - no one else will have the same stationery as them.

What is the future for Paper Pleasures, any new developments for the future?

I'm always working on new designs and illustrations, a new website is on the cards soon. I have some plans in my head, which i'd rather keep secret for now!!

What do you think differentiates you from other wedding stationers?

Unique designs and customer service, I look after my clients every step of the way - many come back even after their wedding for Change of Address Cards, Birth Announcements etc.

How very intriguing and such a tease keeping her new plans to herself. Makes us more excited to hear about them. Katherines work really is very striking and a look through the gallery in the directory and the Paper Pleasures Facebook page will be an indulgence. You can contact Katherine and go to her Facebook page via the Paper Pleasures Profile page in the directory. We look forward to seeing some of your wedding stationery from Paper Pleasures in future.
