Isle of Wight Accommodation

The Caledon Guest House, Cowes

When planning your wedding on the Isle of Wight it is inevitable that some of your guests will be making the trip from the mainland and they will be looking for accommodation here. You may have decided you are going to seek out the best accommodation options for them as near to your reception venue as possible with a cheeky discount, or you may have decided that the choice on where they stay and how much they spend should be up to them so long as they turn up to the wedding.

That’s the thing with people needing to make the trip to the Isle of Wight for a wedding, some will make it a flying visit on a budget with their money spent on the best outfit, gift and bar bill, with the accommodation just being somewhere to crash at the end of a long night dancing. Some of your guests will make a holiday of it and perhaps turn it into a long weekend with a stay in accommodation that will add to the memories of the wedding. Either way, don’t feel under pressure to have provided accommodation information for exactly what your guests might be looking for in their various budgets. There is a lot of information on all the many types of Isle of Wight accommodation available to them and they will find a helpful list of some wedding friendly accommodation here in the Wight Wedding Days directory under Accommodation.  Offering some suggestions helps any guests with no clue where to start, but keep it to suggestions and not co-ordinating their bookings. You have enough on your plate.

Some of the guests based on the Isle of Wight might want to take advantage of a staycation in an area they already know and love, or to explore a part of the Island they haven’t yet stayed in. Yes – there are parts of the Island many locals will not have been to yet despite living here. It can be nice to stay away from home for the evening and have someone else make you breakfast in the morning, and do the washing up!

Despite there being loads of different types of accommodation available to you and your wedding guests to suit every budget going, it is still important to find the best possible value that adds to the experience of your wedding. Unfortunately due to the nature of weddings, some accommodation options shy away from receiving under the influence guests late at night, but others embrace the fun of a wedding and that the stay with them can seal the deal on them returning again in future. Accommodation with local ingredients in the breakfast is a winner with us here at Wight Wedding Days and it is always important to know who you will be dealing with. Especially when staying in a small guest house or bed and breakfast. An Isle of Wight guest house that offers a breakfast full of local ingredients in a family run guest house with a family feel is The Caledon in Cowes. We asked them a little more about what they offer for you and your wedding guests.

Since when has The Caledon Guest House offered accommodation to people staying on the Isle of Wight, and why?

We have owned and run The Caledon for 8 years now, it’s gone so quick!

Why did you decide to run a guest house on the Isle of Wight and what are the benefits?

Mark grew up here so it was only natural that he would return one day. We wanted to run our own business and live by the sea, so The Caledon was the perfect solution! We gave up our London jobs and moved down in 2004 and have never looked back!

How has The Caledon Guest House grown since you started?

Since moving here, we have refurbished the whole house, and then 4 years ago we bought next door and knocked through to create more spacious guest accommodation. We now have 11 guest rooms and lovely bright reception rooms.

Who are the team behind The Caledon Guest House?

The Caledon is run by husband and wife team Mark and Andrea. Also in residence are our two kids Katie 5 and Adam nearly 3, and our spaniel Charlie.

What are you able to offer to wedding couples or their guests?

We have 11 lovely guest rooms of varying sizes to suit everyone; from spacious ensuite double rooms in which to relax, to cosy single rooms to rest your head.

We offer a friendly personal service here, and endeavour to make your stay a happy one :)

All rooms have TV, DVD, tea, coffee, hot choc, biscuits, toiletries, towels and white waffle bathrobes. Some of our rooms have fab sea views!

Do you offer anything that a wedding client might not know about and may be of interest?

We are always complimented on our tasty breakfasts, all cooked to order using local ingredients. We are incredibly lucky to have wonderful Island produce delivered to our door, including Brownrigg Poultry free range eggs, Tomato Stall vine baby tomatoes, Graces Bakery freshly baked bread and Hamiltons fresh pork sausages, yum!

We are very fortunate to have friends at a wonderful boutique wine shop Wine Therapy, our local florist Bay Tree Florists and cake maker extraordinaire Dotty’s Cakes who are all Cowes based and happy to deliver directly to your room – what could be better?!

What is the future for The Caledon Guest House, any new developments?

We are set to stay at The Caledon for the foreseeable future where we shall continue to provide top notch service and cook fab brekkie for all our lovely guests, while we watch our children grow up by the sea.

We love this grand old house and will continue to renovate and refurbish as we do each year to keep it here for future generations.

What do you think differentiates you from other accommodation options on the Isle of Wight?

We are relatively young in our field of work, giving our house and the way we run our business a fresh, relaxed feel. And we love what we do; from serving food that we would like to eat, to providing a friendly home from home atmosphere. And our guests agree – see our TripAdvisor reviews

To be able to stay somewhere that will feel like a home from home with a cooked breakfast made up of local ingredients would make for a memorable stay on the Isle of Wight. In a great spot for travel connections, your guests wouldn't have far to march or drive their suitcases before having a quick rest of the eyes before the wedding.
