Chris Cowley Photography

Isle of Wight Wedding photographer

Happy Friday! We thought we would take this opportunity to share with you one of our great Isle of Wight suppliers.

Today, it’s all about Chris Cowley Photography, a great wedding photographer looking to work with couples to discreetly capture the moments of their day.

Now, here at Wight Wedding Days we know that you will be putting a lot into your big day. Whether it is a large or small budget, emotions will be heightened and attention to detail will be paramount. Your wedding will pass in a whirlwind of greeting and thanking, eating and drinking, speeches and dancing, as well as having your pictures taken. The saddest thing about weddings is that they only last a day, this is why it’s so important to not only ensure you get time to enjoy your day, but to also choose a photographer who will ensure you can spend the rest of your days sharing your memories with willing (and some unwilling) friends and family.  It is essential to choose someone who can understand your vision whilst making you feel relaxed and natural and who can offer you great customer service and quality for money. Chris Cowley is one of those.

Hailing from a background of festival photography (he photographed the Bestival’s blow up church weddings last year don’t you know), Chris is used to anticipating perfect moments and capturing fleeting gems.  This goes some way to ensuring the story of your day is beautifully documented.  Chris is totally open to working with couples who would like to do something creative and a ‘bit different’ in order to tell their story. In fact, it is these types of imaginative shoots that suit his fine art style. His clear vision and breathtaking use of natural light, could make Chris Cowley photography a great choice for your Island Wedding.

One of the things that makes Chris extra special is his dedication to great customer service. He aims to ensure each couples experience is perfect -  from the initial no obligation chat over a cup of tea, through to the busy full day of the wedding until they receive the photos.

Chris Cowley is just as passionate about the Island as a wedding destination as we are and in addition to that is a newly engaged husband-to-be (congratulations Chris and Becky).  His own experience of Wight Wedding Day planning is helping Chris better understand what couples go through. However, having worked on numerous weddings from an early stage of planning, he has weathered the troubles and joys of many a bride and groom.

We asked Chris a few questions to get a bit more of an insight into what he does.

When did Chris Cowley photography start and why?

We have some amazing music festivals on the Island and a few years ago I decided to teach myself photography to try and capture my experiences. I was then lucky enough to end up photographing the festivals professionally.

After seeing my festival photography I had a bride to be contact me to ask if I would photograph her wedding. I wasn’t sure as I had no experience of weddings so I took the time to assist and second shoot with another photographer to gain some experience. I soon realised that the emotion I loved capturing at a festival was nothing compared to the emotions you see all day at a wedding so from the moment I realised that, I knew that wedding photography was for me. This was when Chris Cowley, Isle of Wight wedding photographer was born showcasing my relaxed, creative and natural photography style.

Why the Isle of Wight?

Because it’s beautiful! I feel so lucky to live in such a gorgeous place and love living on the Island so I couldn’t think of a better place to base my business. I have taken a few wedding commissions elsewhere in the UK but none of the settings compare to the beauty of the Island. We are truly spoilt.

How has your business grown?

It’s only just begun in my mind – the last 6 months since I properly launched my website and actually started to put my name out there has been crazy. I’ve been lucky enough to have had my work featured by national wedding magazines and blogs including Rock & Roll Bride, English Wedding blog and Unique Bride magazine which has been great exposure. And with the help of fantastic bridal resources like Wight Wedding days I’m really looking forward to seeing where my journey takes me.

What are the main services you offer?

I’m a creative wedding photographer providing natural and relaxed images that capture the real spirit and emotion of your day. As a part of my role I’m also an artistic storyteller, a risk management specialist and a professional bow tie straightener. I work fast, remain calm and composed and provide amazing customer service at all times whilst - most importantly - ensuring the happy couple have a great day!

My favourite offering is my fine art wedding albums which are truly gorgeous. I encourage all my couples to get one of these as there’s nothing better than holding your very own fine art wedding album that tells the story of the most amazing day of your life.

Do you offer anything that a client might not know about?

Whilst I don’t advertise it I do take on the occasional portrait commission - the more creative and wild the better!

What is the future for Chris Cowley Photography?

Taking lots and lots of amazing photos and making couples very happy.

As cheesy as it probably sounds, I’d be very happy knowing my photos are bringing all the memories of the big day flooding back like it was only yesterday. The photos may even end up being enjoyed by the tiny off-spring of the madly in love couples I’m lucky enough to work with and that’s very cool to think about.

As a side note I’d really love to do more outdoor/garden or festival themed weddings so give me a shout if you’re planning one and looking for a photographer for your day!

What differentiates you from other photographers?

I shudder at the thought of the stuffy, old-fashioned wedding photographers of days gone by who statically pose group after group photo and then hold couples to ransom for prints. This seems to resonate with my clients and so my natural and creative style combined with my relaxed way of working seems to go down well. I also include everything up-front with no hidden extras so you can easily budget for your wedding photography. After all, planning a wedding is hard enough so I try to make life as easy and enjoyable for the couple as possible – right the way from booking me to receiving their fine art wedding album.

How are you finding planning your own wedding so far?

Exciting! I’m lucky enough to already know a lot of fantastic suppliers and wedding vendors so we’ve found it pretty easy so far. Maybe ask me three weeks before our wedding and see how I’m doing? ;)

We wish Chris and Becky all the best in their planning experience and it won’t be long before you hear from Chris again with a guest blog. In the meantime, for more information and to contact Chris go to his profile on WWD or his website www.isleofwightweddingphotographer.co.uk.
