Choosing an off peak wedding day

One of the more challenging aspects of wedding planning is the ever expanding ‘peak season’ and the costs associated with getting married during this time. More and more brides are finding that in order to hold their perfect wedding in the early spring or during autumn they have to pay the same tariff as summer weddings. Many companies’ summer tariffs will run from the start of April to the very end of October -  now, this half of Wight Wedding Days spent September and October wrapped up in woolly tights and gloves, running around shielded by an umbrella (hot) so I feel sorry for those getting married at this time of year who have to pay the same rates as mid summer weddings. At the same time, we all know there is no such thing as a summer in Britain any more – I feel equally as sorry for those who go all out to afford a peak summer wedding only to wake up on their special day and find there is a black thunder cloud the size of Brazil looming overhead. So why not make the most of an off-peak wedding date?

At any time of the year, the chances of waking up in England and being faced with a beautiful clear blue, sunny sky are slim, but all us Wight lovers will know that when those days arrive we wouldn’t want to be anywhere else. The chance of being able to have your photos taken against the backdrop of a clear Ventnor sunset is worth the risk. Undoubtedly, the most cost efficient time to get married is between November and the end of March, unless you’re taken by the idea of Santa walking you down the aisle. Most people may be put off by the temperature and the fact our complexions are at their worst at that time of the year (nothing a good make up artist will be able to sort!).

But if you’re in the throes of love, excited to be spending the day surrounded by your nearest and dearest and just want a good old party there are plenty of ways to work the winter atmosphere and save a packet whilst you’re doing so (anything up to half price on venue costs). That extra saving will come in very handy when it comes to funding a sun-kissed honeymoon!
