Buying a Bridesmaid dress to slim into -

DON’T do it

Smile like this because you are happy - not in pain!!

Ok, so I (Katie) should have known better shouldn’t I! I seem to remember in a blog titled ‘Finding your bridesmaid her dress’ I wrote a lot of advice on finding the right dress and even warned of high street dresses not leaving much room for alteration….well, I went and did it didn’t I. We (I’ll let the bride take some flack) ordered a dress I could slim into.

A fatal mistake. I ordered a 12 and to be honest with a bit of slimming (about a stone so prob more slimming effort than I’m imagining) I can fit a dress size 12. Great, so that dress was ordered and some slimming began…..and stopped, and is about to restart again once I’ve worked my way through all the possible excuses. After my friend trying to tie me down umpteen times to try the dress on so we knew how far to go, I agreed to try it on.

I hid in the spare room and squeezed the dress over my head. It looked small on the hanger, but knowing I could be the smaller size I semi-enthusiastically tried the dress on. You guessed it, it didn’t fit. Not only did it not fit but with all the slimming in the world it wasn’t going to fit over my ribcage. Starving and in need of a meal is not the look I was going to be going for on her wedding day (or ever achieve – I LOVE cake!).

I’d come round to help plan the wedding and managed to scupper the bridesmaid dress plans!! We were going to have to order another online. Feeling a little silly that I didn’t buy a bigger size and have it altered. Why wouldn’t I do that?

My advice is don’t expect too much from yourself in the way of slimming for a wedding and into such an important dress. You will only waste money and increase stress levels. And buy a dress in your size so if you do manage to slim down a wee bit (yay) you can take it in where it needs it. On that note though, check the style will allow for that, and the material too. Hope my  non-slimming never gonna fit experience helps you.
